Month at a Glance — November 2022

A breakdown of the latest happenings and significant milestones taking place within the Tezos ecosystem for the month of November 2022.

Welcome to our latest issue of Month at a Glance where we breakdown most of the latest happenings and significant milestones taking place within the Tezos ecosystem on a monthly cadence.

Like a repeating vinyl record, November 2022 was a big month in terms of continued network usage, integrations, and further adoption.

Let’s break it all down.

Ecosystem Insights

Protocol Lima has entered the Adoption phase of token holder voting and is moving towards being activated on chain.

Continuing ongoing developments for scaling applications such as Zero Knowledge Rollups and SCORUs, Lima introduces the following features:

PipeliningConsensus keysImprovements to TicketsGhostnet fixesLiquidity Baking sunset removedTemporary Time-lock deprecation

These features play a precursor towards the long awaited road to 1 million transactions per second, with Nomadic Labs chiming in on ‘Smart Rollups’.

Essentially, smart rollups are more than SCORUs (smart contract optimistic rollups) with high scalability. They will allow anyone to program and deploy their own interoperable Layer 2 solution in a wide array of popular programming languages.

Per Nomadic Labs blog post, we can get a better idea of where things are moving in terms of scaling on Tezos. Per Nomadic Labs:

Fancy an EVM-compatible “sidechain” in the Tezos ecosystem? This can be implemented using the new rollup infrastructure. We are already exploring this and will ramp up our work once smart rollups are live on Tezos Mainnet.Smart rollups also enable an entirely new way to write decentralized applications on Tezos. In addition to using smart contracts on Layer 1, developers will be able to implement a dapp as a rollup, though this is mostly relevant for users requiring high throughput and/or intense computation.Doing so effectively makes the smart rollup work like an app-chain — a blockchain dedicated to a single application — but one that draws on the time-tested security model of the Tezos network. Finally, let’s not forget scaling: smart rollups play a central role in our mission to reach one million transactions per second (TPS) on Tezos, as announced at the TezDev Paris conference earlier this year.Note that the million TPS goal is one we have set for ourselves for the short term. In the long term, due to the combination of horizontal and vertical scaling, there is virtually no limit to the scaling potential of Tezos rollups.

Scaling is happening and it may come sooner than we might think!

Not to be left out this month, we’ve seen a clear divergence from most of the crypto market in terms of NFT sales. NFT sales on Tezos have eclipsed new all time highs in Q3 2022 according to data from Messari.

As we can glean from the chart above, amidst current market sentiment — NFT traders are very active on Tezos. At this particular point we can’t really be surprised with the level of traction Tezos has gained in the art world. From working with brands such as Red Bull Racing, Evian, McLaren Racing, N.Y. Mets, Art Basel, and more — a firm mindshare has been cemented.

Don’t just take it from me, take it from the people on the ground floor at events like Art Basel Miami.

It’s interesting that it’s become a competitive advantage as an NFT platform to integrate Tezos, all it takes is a quasi-competent engineering team.

That said, Art Basel Miami was a great success. Visitors at Art Basel got to visit the Tezos exhibition from December 1–3, and experienced PERFORMANCE IN CODE. Recording from the speaker series will be posted online.

As the month of November has concluded, we’ll keep marching on towards greater scalability on Tezos.

Announcing Lambda DAOs on Homebase

Homebase, the flagship DAO creation platform on Tezos is introducing Lambda DAOs.A Lambda DAO is essentially a custom DAO structure that allows members to submit proposals to interact with smart contracts, injected as lambdas that can execute arbitrary contract calls, similar to Gnosis Safe. Users will be able to have their DAO evolve over time, and interact with new smart contracts and various dApps as their needs change.Learn more about the announcement here.

Umami wallet is now available on mobile!

PR: Nomadic Labs, one of the largest R&D hubs in the Tezos ecosystem, unveils Umami for mobile (iOS and Android). Umami Mobile offers users new features to enable interactions and to facilitate value exchanges among the Tezos community.”

Tezos Foundation x Unity

The Tezos Foundation has entered a Professional Services Agreement with Unity for blockchain development compatibility.Read more about the news here.

Announcing Homebase Lite: Snapshot on Tezos!

PR: “We’ve been contemplating the addition of such a tool to our governance kit for a while, especially given the prohibitive learning curve associated with creating and managing DAOs in the main Homebase app. With that learning curve in mind, with Homebase Lite, users can now instantiate DAOs, create and vote on token-weighted polls without having to bother with the cycle-bound operating model, the quorum self-adjustment feature, staking/un-staking, and other more advanced functionalities present in Homebase.”

TC Community Rewards Program and updates on the Small Grants Program

The Community Rewards Program (CRP) is a Tezos Commons Foundation initiative aimed at fostering adoption and supporting the Tezos ecosystem. Every month up to 5,000 tez are rewarded to those that stand out in merit and act in the interest of the Tezos ecosystem as a whole.

In an endeavor to make it easier for community members to nominate their favorite contributors to the ecosystem, the nomination form has been drastically streamlined. Now containing only three questions, it takes less than 30 seconds to submit a nomination.

Don’t have 30 seconds? You can tag any discord message or tweet with #TezosCRP and we will collect them as well!

The categories and nomination standards have remained the same. For more information head over to the landing page here. We’ve also announced October 2022 winners, so be sure to check out the recap on that here.
